A 3-days course on Qualitative Research Methods was organized by Public Health Foundation, Bangladesh (PHFBD) from 22-24 March 2019 at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Dhaka, Bangladesh. This new course was coordinated by Professor Dr Fatema Ashraf, former Chairperson of PHFBD and renowned faculties from home and abroad contributed as resource persons. Dr. Taufique Joarder DrPH, Executive Director of PHFBD, Professor Dr Harun-Ar-Rashid, former Director Bangladesh Medical Research Council (BMRC), Abdullah-Al-Mamun, icddrb, Dr Sadika Akter PhD, Assistant Scientist, icddrb, Dr M Tasdik Hasan, Researcher, Department of Psychological Sciences, University of Liverpool and Professor Fatema Ashraf, Head of Department, Gynae & Obs., Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College, Dhaka conducted different theoretical and hands on sessions. The participants were young to mid age professionals from different institutions including Rajshahi Medical College, Mymensingh Medical College, Bangladesh Medical College, Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College, Dhaka etc. Professor Dr Muzaherul Huq, Founder Chairperson, PHFBD and Professor Dr. Sharmeen Yasmeen, Chairperson, PHFBD attended the concluding session and certificate awarding ceremony as the Special Guests. They emphasized on continuing research activities with formal training in clinical arena and signified the importance of conducting qualitative research in the era of complex field of public health. The youngest participant, Ms Moomtahina, the only medical student attending the course, said, “This training was an eye-opening opportunity for me to develop a basic concept in qualitative research method and I am considering the practical sessions as more effective to understand the theories properly.” We, on behalf of PHFBD, wish the best of luck to all participants, faculties and support staffs for the successful event.
