Prof. Dr. Fatema Ashraf, completed her graduation in the year 1986 and got FCPS in gynae and Obs in the year 1997. She obtained MPH in epidemiology in the year 2013. At present she is a EC member of Obstetrical and Gynaecological society of Bangladesh (OGSB) and Chairman, Public health foundation of Bangladesh. She is now working as Professor and Head of the department of Obs and gynae at ShSMC.
Professor Ashraf since her early tenure worked at different Upzilla, subcentre and district and Tertiary level hospitals of peripheral Bangladesh. She served underprivileged women of rural area and provide them both curative and preventive services and undertake health promotional activities. She got letter of high appreciation from UNICEF for achieving remarkable improvement in Emergency obstetric service during working at District hospital. She is one of the active member of ‘International team on Arsenic” leaded by Professor Bibudhendra Sarkar, Professor Emeritus from Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, Canada. Professor Fatema Ashraf invented a low cost approach for Infertility management which is accessible and affordable to all, working for last 17 years at different level public and private sectors in a small scale and waiting to expand more. During her daily obs and gynae practice Dr. Ashraf appeared as a leading clinician with high morals and professionalism. She always drive for quality service at affordable cost. She try to curtail the rate of unnecessary Caesarean section and favour vaginal delivery. Even at private hospital she worked hard to increase the rate of normal delivery that she have to do some times in spite of whole night efforts. Dr. Fatema has buil up a energetic team at Obs dept. of SHSMC, who are working on pregnancy induced Diabetic (GDM) cases and obtained a very good outcome, that was presented at 12th South East Asian Congress of epidemiological association of Thailand and 2nd conference of Writers association, 2016. Professor Fatema is also working actively for cancer cervix screening program of Bangladesh since long. She is an academician and is responsible for under graduate and post graduate teaching, training and conduct exams. She is proud activist of BCPS (Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons) academic activities. Professor Fatema born in Narail district which was once a part of greater Jessore. She is one of the active adviser of Jessore website and vice president of Jessore foundation. She loves to do work and committed to build a healthy Bangladesh. She is also cultural minded and got award in indoor games like chess, Table Tennis etc and cultural events since school, College, Medical College and after that also.
